How to transcribe Instagram Reels

How to get an Instagram Reel transcript

1. Copy the Reel link. In the Instagram app, tap the share icon (the paper plane), then Copy link. On a computer, open the three-dot menu on the Reel and choose Copy link.
2. Open the Instagram transcript generator and sign in to your free TokScript account. If you don't have one yet, create one. You won't need a card.
3. Paste the link into the box and start the scan.
4. Copy the transcript to use wherever you like, or export it as TXT, XML, JSON or CSV.
5. Find it again later in your TokScript library, where every transcript you pull is saved.

The TokScript Chrome extension only works on TikTok, so for Reels, use the website or the connector.

Does this work for YouTube Shorts too?

What if a Reel does not return a transcript?

Start by checking that the Reel has speech. If it's only music, there are no words to transcribe. Instagram transcripts sometimes fail for a short while too, so wait a few minutes and try again. If it still fails, see Video Won't Transcribe / "No Transcript Available".

How do I get a script, not just the transcript?
