My Transcript Request Is Timing Out

Understanding and resolving timeout issues with MCP connector requests for single and bulk video processing.

If your transcription requests are timing out or getting stuck, here's how to diagnose and fix the issue.

Why Timeouts Happen:

  • The video file is very large or poor quality.

  • Your internet connection is slow.

  • TokScript is processing a high volume of requests (rare, but possible).

  • The video has no captions or audio (some videos fail to transcribe).

How to Fix It:

1. Try a Different Video First

  • Test with a different video to see if the issue is specific to one video or your setup.

  • If a simple, short video transcribes fine, the problem is with the specific video you're trying to transcribe.

2. Check Video Quality

  • Make sure the video has audio or captions (the transcript source). If a video is muted with no text on screen, there's nothing to transcribe.

  • Try transcribing a different video from the same creator to see if it's a one-off issue.

3. Try Again Later

  • If you're transcribing a large collection (50+ videos), the request may take longer than expected. Wait a few minutes and try again, or wait for the email with results.

  • For individual videos, try again. Sometimes a temporary server issue resolves itself.

4. Break Bulk Requests Into Smaller Batches

  • If you're transcribing 50+ videos at once and requests are timing out, break it into two batches (25 + 25).

  • Async processing is designed to handle large collections, but very large batches can sometimes slow down the queue.

5. Check Your Internet

  • Run a speed test. If your connection is below 5 Mbps, transcription may be slow.

  • Switch from WiFi to mobile data (or vice versa) and try again.

What "Timeout" Means:

  • Instant timeout (a few seconds): The request didn't reach TokScript. Check your internet connection.

  • Timeout after 30+ seconds: TokScript received the request but is taking too long. This usually means the video is hard to process or the queue is busy.

For Large Collections (50+ Videos):

Remember: collections of 50+ videos go into an async queue and are emailed to you in about 30 minutes. This isn't a timeout—it's working as designed. You'll receive an email with all results.

Still Timing Out?

  • Try transcribing a single, short video to confirm your connection works.

  • If single videos work but bulk transcription times out, stick to batches of 20-30 videos instead of 50.

  • If even single videos time out consistently, check TokScript's status page or contact support.
