Can Claude transcribe video?

Yes, Claude can transcribe a TikTok, Instagram Reel or YouTube video from its link once you add the TokScript connector. TokScript works from those video links, not from uploaded video files. Claude can't reliably get the spoken words from a video link on its own, so TokScript fetches the transcript and hands it to Claude in your chat.

If you have a video file on your device rather than a link, TokScript can't help with that one. It doesn't transcribe uploaded files.

Why Claude needs a connector for video

A video link you paste into Claude is just a web address to it. On its own, Claude can't reliably get the spoken words from that link. The TokScript connector gives Claude tools that fetch the transcript for it, so Claude can read the transcript and work with it in the same conversation.

How to transcribe a video in Claude

1. Create a free account at tokscript.com. No card is needed.
2. In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
3. Name it TokScript and paste this address: https://api.tokscript.com/mcp
4. Log in with your TokScript account and allow access.
5. Start a new chat, paste a video link and ask: "Get me the transcript of this video."
6. Then ask for whatever you need next: a summary, the opening hook or a rewrite.

Is it free?

Yes. The connector works on a free TokScript account, with the same limit as the website: 5 transcripts a day, resetting every 24 hours. If you need more, paid plans remove the limit and cost $10 a month or $39 a year. More in Is TokScript free?

Can Claude transcribe a YouTube video?

It can. With TokScript connected, Claude gets transcripts for YouTube Shorts and full-length YouTube videos, along with TikToks and Instagram Reels. There's no cap on video length on any plan.

Does it work in Claude Code and Claude Cowork?

Yes, the same connector address (https://api.tokscript.com/mcp) works in Claude, Claude Cowork and Claude Code, and you log in with the same TokScript account. Can Claude transcribe many videos at once?

On a paid plan, yes. Paste up to 50 links in one message, from TikTok, Instagram and YouTube mixed together, or ask for a TikTok collection or a creator's profile, up to 3,000 videos per link. Profile pulls need a paid plan.

Which languages does it support?

TokScript transcribes and translates in 50+ languages. To translate a transcript, ask Claude to do it through the connector.

How do I get a script, not just the transcript?

Ask Claude in the same chat. For example: "Rewrite this transcript as a 30-second script for my channel, keep the hook." Every transcript is saved to your TokScript library too, so you can pick it up again in a later chat. On a paid plan, TokScript's Viral Script Writer on the website does the same from any saved transcript.
