If a video fails to transcribe or returns no results, here's how to diagnose and fix the issue.
Why This Happens:
The video has no audio or captions.
The video is deleted, private, or no longer available.
TikTok or Instagram removed the video.
The video has poor quality or corrupted audio.
The platform doesn't support transcription (some videos are excluded by platform policy).
How to Diagnose:
1. Check If the Video Still Exists
Click the URL and verify the video is still live and public.
If it's private, deleted, or behind a paywall, TokScript can't transcribe it.
Make sure you're not blocked by the creator or limited by region.
2. Check for Audio or Captions
Open the video and listen. Does it have audio? Does it have captions or on-screen text?
If a video is completely mute with no visual text, there's nothing to transcribe.
Some muted videos have captions turned on by default—check if captions are available.
3. Try a Different Video
Test with a different video from the same creator or a totally different creator.
If other videos transcribe fine, the issue is specific to this video.
4. Check the Platform
TokScript supports TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and YouTube videos.
If you're trying a different platform (Snapchat, BeReal, etc.), it won't work.
Common Scenarios:
"Video Not Found"
The video has been deleted or the link is broken.
Verify the URL is correct (copy directly from the video, not from chat).
"No Captions or Audio Detected"
The video is mute with no on-screen text.
This video can't be transcribed. Try a different video.
"Private Video"
The creator has set the video to private.
Ask the creator to make it public, or try a public video instead.
"Transcript Available But Incomplete"
The video may have low-quality audio or background noise that's hard to process.
The transcript you got is the best TokScript could extract (usually still 90%+ accurate).
Pro Tip:
If a video fails, ask Claude or ChatGPT for help. For example:
"This video won't transcribe. Can you watch it and summarize what the creator says?"
Claude can often provide a helpful summary if TokScript can't extract the transcript. This is especially useful for videos with low audio quality.
